At Volvo Cars, we are shaping the future of mobility with safety, sustainability, quality, and innovation at the core. The Group Design Lead is a program manager driving the implementation of our Seats Functions, combining SW and HW. You lead supplier as well as internal team. This role combines technical understanding with leadership and assignment coordination, including responsibility for balancing time, technology, and cost to achieve the desired quality, functionality, and delivery precision. 

What you'll do


You will work with our coming content for new cars for Seats Function & Control.

You will:
  • Lead and contribute to solution development through concept development, verification, and technical documentation in early- as well as late phases. The work involves project coordination and planning.
  • Produce and quality assure design documentation to support decision-making, communication, evaluation, and implementation of technical solutions.
  • Be responsible for technical and process improvements and development efforts with a focus on increased quality, sustainability, and cost efficiency in delivery.
  • Contribute to the prioritization and planning of deliveries from Function & Control team as a whole.

You will act as a great contributor to knowledge sharing, collaboration, and clear communication within and across teams, in line with the company’s core competencies and culture. Understanding and act on customers need is fundamental. You are expected to take an active role in driving continuous improvements, strengthening quality, and contributing to the ongoing development.

You will help improve methods, technology, and ways of working, with a strong emphasis on driving concept development and fostering cross-functional collaboration.

What you'll bring


You are an experienced program manager or GDL with strong technical judgement, a structured way of working, and you are able to work independently as well as guide others whitin assignments while handling mixed information flows. You can see technical and process improvements and communicate them clearly
We are looking for you with:

  • Educational background in mechanical engineering or another relevant engineering field.
  • Solid experience from HW & SW development
  • Experience from project coordination or planning
  • Ability to handle complex technical challenges and make balanced trade-offs.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in maintaining constructive technical dialogue.


You independently plan, support with prioritize, and drive assignments over time, even when direction is not fully defined.

Finally, you are curious, improvement-oriented, and confident in supporting and mentoring colleagues, with strong ownership and a genuine interest in turning ideas into well-functioning technical solutions.
