iOS Engineer
Fishbrain
Did you know that fishing is one of the world’s most popular hobbies? We do! Here at Fishbrain, we’ve built the world’s #1 fishing app for people who love fishing. Our goal is to create the best possible experience for anglers and help them achieve their fishing dreams, today and tomorrow. We are looking for an iOS Engineer who is passionate about building great consumer products and wants to take ownership beyond just the iOS codebase. Your main expertise will be native iOS development, but we especially value engineers who are comfortable working across the stack, from the mobile experience to APIs and backend services. You’ll help take features from idea to production, contribute to technical and product decisions, and work on experiments that improve the experience for millions of anglers. Please submit your application in English.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON:
- Build and ship high-quality features in our native iOS app using Swift.
- Own features throughout the full product lifecycle — from discovery and technical design to implementation, experimentation, release and maintenance.
- Work closely with Product, Design, Backend and other Mobile Engineers to solve customer problems.
- Contribute beyond the iOS codebase when useful, including APIs, backend services and other parts of the mobile stack.
- Work on features and experiments that improve activation, engagement and retention.
- Use data and experimentation to understand the impact of what you build.
- Contribute to technical decisions, architecture and engineering practices across the team.
- Collaborate through code reviews, technical discussions and pair programming when it helps us solve problems better.
WHAT WE ARE FISHING FOR:
- 5+ years of recent professional experience building native iOS applications.
- Have strong experience with Swift and a solid understanding of iOS architecture, design patterns and platform best practices.
- Can independently take ownership of features from problem to production.
- Care about the product and user experience, not just the implementation.
- Enjoy working in a product team where engineers contribute to both technical and product decisions.
- Are curious and comfortable learning technologies outside your primary area of expertise.
- Are motivated by missions and outcomes rather than a predefined list of tasks.
- Have strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience working across mobile and backend, taking features end-to-end beyond the iOS codebase.
- Experience with Ruby/Ruby on Rails or similar backend technologies, including APIs and services.
- Experience with A/B testing, experimentation and analytics tools such as Amplitude, Firebase or Braze.
- Experience building consumer-facing mobile products, particularly around engagement, retention or growth.
- Experience in building dynamic components during runtime.
