AstraZeneca seeks a postdoctoral fellow to develop biocatalytic chemistry and scalable reaction technologies for small-molecule synthesis. The one-year position, based in Gothenburg, focuses on hydrogen-driven enzymatic cascades for selective reductions and oxidations, advancing laboratory discoveries toward pharmaceutical manufacturing applications.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute enzymatic reaction cascades combining hydrogen, hydrogenases, and biocatalysts for selective transformations
- Optimize biocatalytic reactions from small-scale screening through preparative and larger-scale experiments
- Investigate reaction parameters including enzyme concentration, pH, temperature, solvent composition, and cofactor balance
- Characterize substrates, intermediates, and products using appropriate analytical methods
- Collaborate with AstraZeneca scientists, academic partners, and external technology providers to deliver scalable solutions
Requirements
- PhD in biocatalysis, synthetic organic chemistry, enzyme engineering, or related discipline
- Practical experience designing and executing independent research projects
- Strong understanding of organic chemistry and/or enzymatic catalysis principles
- Experience in experimental planning, reaction optimization, and scientific problem-solving
- Track record of research productivity demonstrated through publications or presentations
- Proficiency in analytical characterization techniques such as LC-MS, GC-MS, and NMR
